How many times have you heard the saying, “We need to think outside the box”? This is an indication that you are being asked to find a solution to an issue that has been unsolved for a while. It is a call for change! A call for something new and different! A challenge to rise above!
While these are all great motivational statements, the true challenge is to find a solution that works. To be truly able to find the best solution to an issue, you need to be open to all possibilities. So I say, don't think outside the box. Don't think inside the box. Don't even consider the box. Look for the solution anywhere. It could be something new, something old, something borrowed or something blue. A great solution can come from anywhere and anyone. Don't put limits on yourself. Be open to any idea and evaluate each one equally.
Understand that most unsolved issues are that way simply because of the limitations you put on your thinking and not because they are unsolvable. Recognize the “box” and remove it from your thought process and you will have much greater success finding resolutions to the issues you are working on.
